Book Review Requests

If you are looking to request a review for your own book, you’re in the right place. If you’re looking to request a review for someone else’s book please refer to my request page

What I will accept:

Format preferences:

  • I am currently accepting .MOBI, .pdf and .epub files, although MOBI is my preference.
  • I will review graphic novels (but not comics) in .pdf form only.
  • I will also review audiobooks on Audible or as a file.

I do not have Kindle Unlimited.

I do not currently accept physical copies, although I will host giveaways as long as you are organising all shipping etc. of the prize.

On books in series:

I will review standalone books, first books in series as well as later books in series.

If your book is not the first book in the series, please be prepared to send me the previous books (note: I will need more time to review this book than the time frames below).

What I will not accept:

I currently do not accept the following genres:
  • comedy
  • erotica
  • comics
  • mystery
I will also not accept books containing the following themes:
  • romanticised rape
  • romanticised cheating/adultery (on behalf of the protagonists, e.g. where the two main characters get together despite one already being in a relationship)
  • statutory rape
  • romanticised drug use
  • racism/sexism/homophobia or any other kind of discrimination unless presented as problematic and wrong
  • incest

Please note that I am not generally a fan of love triangles, dystopian novels or romance novels set in high school, although there are exceptions.

What I will accept:

I love the following genres:
  • fantasy
  • magical realism
  • contemporary (especially if it will make me cry)
  • sci-fi (as in where people go to space)
  • fantastical science fiction

I will also read some historical fiction.

I accept non-fiction, plays and poetry collections on a case-by-case basis. I will read books aimed at all ages (including children’s books, middle grade, young adult, new adult and adult).

I prefer to read books in English, but I will also review books in German.

I would love to read books with the following themes or elements:
  • mental health (especially if the mental health improves over time)
  • romance (including LGBTQIA+)
  • magic and powers
  • self-development and empowerment
  • characters with interesting jobs/interests/personalities
  • loving, supporting families

What you can expect from me

Response:

  • a response within 7 days
  • the only exception: if you have not followed my guidelines (below) or have submitted something I have said I will not review (above)

Review timeframe:

  • I will communicate an exact date for your review no later than six weeks after receiving your book (unless we decide on an alternate time frame).
  • This date will be within three months of when you were first in contact with me, unless alternate plans have been agreed.
  • I will send you a link when the review has been posted.
If I do decide to your review your book, it can go one of two ways:
  1. It fits into a theme at some point in the next three months. In this case I will ask if that week is an acceptable time for you.
  2. It does not seem to fit into any themes for the next three months. In this case, I will refrain from making a decision until after reading the book. If at that point it still won’t fit into a theme, I will post it as an additional post.

NOTE: I run weekly themes on my blog to help create relevant blog posts, so it is my preference to post reviews as part of a theme instead of as additional posts, as it decreases the workload.

Will I definitely review your book?

  • I will always post a review on Goodreads and Amazon UK (if your book is listed on these sites) if I agree to review your book.
  • Reviews on other Amazons are available upon request.

HOWEVER I MAY NOT ALWAYS POST A REVIEW ON MY BLOG.

  • If I rate your book 3-5/5 and you have agreed to an interview or guest post (see below): I will be in contact about this. Regardless of whether I write a full length review (800+ words) or a mini review (200+ words), I will do this.
  • If I have rated your book 3-5/5 and you have not agreed to an interview/guest post and I only have enough to say to write a mini review: I will wait and combine this with mini reviews for other books (this may not be on the original review date).
  • If I rate your book 0-2/5 and didn’t have enough to say for a full length review: I will not post a review of your book on my blog unless I feel so inclined.

IF I DO NOT FINISH YOUR BOOK I WILL POST A REVIEW ON GOODREADS, BUT NOT ON AMAZON OR ON MY BLOG UNLESS I HAVE SOMETHING MAJOR TO SAY.

How do guest posts/interviews work

I generally prefer to post guest posts or interviews alongside my reviews. This creates a more engaging experience for my readers and can help you with marketing as well. See What I need from you for details on how to confirm your availability.

  • If you have agreed to be available for a guest post, please provide possible ideas.
  • If you have agreed to an interview, I will provide the questions.
  • If you have agreed to both, please provide possible guest post ideas as I will pick which one I ask for based on how good the ideas vs. any questions I have are.

If I would like for you to do a guest post or interview I will be in contact after reading your book, at which point I will give you more information.

Before your review gets posted, how else can I help you?

You are also welcome to follow me on Twitter, and I will happily retweet any information regarding the book if I enjoy it.

About how I rate and review books:

In my review I will review your book honestly, but unless there was something which particularly angered me in your book, I am generally fairly nice in my reviews and acknowledge when others may have enjoyed the book even if I did not, although my ratings are harsh.

I am very happy to include purchasing links, links to any other promotional offers you have going on and any of your own social media.

I rate books out of 5 (with 0 being the worst) and you can find more information on how I do ratings here
